Washington Vision Therapy Center is a practice specializing in therapeutic treatment of functional vision problems. We work with patients of all ages, from toddlers to senior citizens, focusing on gaining strong, efficient visual systems. The majority of the vision issues we address cannot be corrected by glasses or contacts alone. This includes, but is not limited to, Convergence Insufficiency, double vision, eye turns (strabismus), lazy eye (amblyopia), trouble focusing, headaches with reading, eye strain, dizziness or vertigo with a visual component, and visual disturbances due to traumatic brain injuries.
Do you know a child who struggles with reading or is consistently underperforming in academics?
We have many school-aged patients who are quite bright, but have persistent trouble with learning and processing visual information. Often times, this child might have a vision issue causing blurry or double vision that glasses alone will not resolve. So much energy and attention must be put towards keeping words on the page single or clear that they have very little left for reading or comprehending what they’ve seen. If this sounds like a child you know, please take a moment to watch this video to see how Vision Therapy changed the lives of other, similar children.
Do you get headaches after working on a computer?
Many of our adult patients find that their vision issues begin to impede their ability to perform their jobs, because so many of them work on computers for hours at a time. These patients might complain of eye strain, headaches, or trouble concentrating after a few hours of work or by the end of the day. Vision therapy can teach efficient, effortless vision to patients of all ages, making focusing on screens or texts up close easy and headache-free. Take this symptom survey to find out if your symptoms indicate that you have a visual problem Vision Therapy could alleviate.
Do you have a wandering eye (strabismus, esotropia, exotropia, hypertropia) or a lazy eye (amblyopia)?
Vision Therapy is an effective treatment for increasing acuity in an amblyopic eye, as well as increasing alignment and depth perception in a strabismic visual system. Therapy can be effective independent of, or as an adjunct to, surgery for strabismus, and we have seen great results with our patients in both cases. We work with very young children who show wandering eyes to develop binocular (two-eyed) vision, as well as adults who have had a wandering eye for years or those that have had unsuccessful surgeries in the past. Do you want to get an edge in academics or sports?
Vision Therapy can provide athletes with skills needed to increase their ability to follow fast-moving object, as well as fine-tuning depth perception for more accurate throwing or shooting. Larry Fitzgerald is one example of a high-level athlete who has spoken of the great value of Vision Therapy in his career. Vision Therapy can also increase a student’s reading speed and increase multi-tasking abilities. For those students interested in increasing their capacity for learning, or decrease the time it takes to read long passages, Vision Therapy can be highly effective.
